Being a mom of three children, I am passionate about helping other moms and dads with ways to create opportunities for children to get fit. The area of kids fitness and nutrition (which go hand in hand) is one area I like to specialize in and I have given many moms some great advice and guidance with respect to the foods their children eat and how to get their kids moving and away from the TV. I feels very strongly that children should be taught good eating habits as well as good routines. It is vital that parents or guardians not restrict children's diets or their calorie intake whatsoever, while kids are growing (at least until they stop growing) as well as encourage kids to get active. Children should not be permitted to eat what and when they like, nor should they be allowed to spend hours immobile in front of a computer, television, DS, cell phone etc...  but rather that their overall diet be one of nutrient rich foods, moderation and their days should be full with a lot of daily activity. If you have an overweight child or a child who does not eat healthy foods, it is imperative that they maintain a high level of activity in something they enjoy doing and not in something that is forced upon them.

Kids naturally love to move around. How many times have your told your child to keep still, sit still or calm down. Kids have excess energy that needs to be burned off. Channel this energy into fun activities for your child. Enroll them in local sports groups, dance groups, gymnastics programs, swim teams or any other area your child may show an interest in.

 

 

If all else fails, there are always the local parks. A park is a great place for your kid to run around, play on the equipment, ride a bike or scooter and get moving. Of course, even your own backyard could be a great source of activity for your child.

Another great option is to do activities with your child - join a dance class together, karate classes are offered to both parents and kids etc... This is an awesome way to spend time with your kids, get your own work out in as well as create a great opportunity for your child to get fit and of course to have fun!!!!
